Zayana Ajae Tara Cave

Miss Zayana Ajae Tara Cave, also known as Zay Zay, 13, of South Hill, VA entered into eternal rest Saturday, February 18, 2017 at VCU/MCV Hospital Richmond, VA. Zayana was born in Philadelphia, PA January 23, 2004 to Christopher Cunningham and Anja Winn. When she was born, the family was told that due to her being born with Spina Bifida that she would never walk, talk or be able to retain any information. Well, Zayana proved them wrong. Zayana was very smart and intelligent, she had a smile that would light up the world and a heart most of us wish we had. At seven months old she said to her Pop-pop Rob, "I want to walk". She would walk him to death. So that started a life full of determination and hard work. She was eager to learn and marveled when she learned new things. She loved to draw and sing and she would dance to anything. Even with her medical challenges, she learned how to ride a bike. She lived in Philadelphia until she was 12 and was your average student. In the summer of 2016, she moved to Virginia with her grandmother (Dutchess) and great-grandmother (Grammy) where she excelled in her studies and became an Honor Roll Student. Zayana was chosen to be an athlete in the upcoming Special Olympics. She was loved by all her teachers and classmates at Parkview Middle School. Zayana is survived by her loving mother, Anja Winn; her father, Christopher Cunningham whom she adored; brother, Khamani Williams; maternal grandmother, Ann Winn-Shim(Dutchess); paternal grandparents, Kevin and Sonya Cunningham; maternal great- grandfather, Garrett Winn, Sr.;great grandmother Sharon Thomas; two aunts, Kayla Thomas & Charisma Parker; four uncles, Brian Gilbert, Willis Bowman, T J and Kevin Cunningham; one great uncle, Garrett Winn Jr; two great aunts, Dawn Murray and Gloria Bennett; her beloved Pop-pop, Robert Faulk and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 24, 2017 at the family residence located on Wayne Taylor Drive, South Hill, VA with Rev. Cathy Charles officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
