Mrs. Willie Mae Knott “Billie” Cope of Clarksville died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. She was 74 at the time of her death. She was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Raleigh, N.C., and was married to Kenneth Roger Cope, who survives. She was a former elementary school teacher, and substitute high school teacher. She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 45 years. She was the first female member of the Clarksville Fire Department where she was a life member, and was the first female advance life support member of the Mecklenburg Rescue Squad, where she was also a life member. She served as Sunday school teacher for many years and hosted many exchange students over the years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Willie Doster Knott, two brothers, Lindsey Knott and Michael Knott, and a sister, Betsy Knott Blalock, all of Raleigh, N.C., two sons, Kenneth Roger Cope Jr., of Maryland, and Michael Cope, and his wife Angela, of Clarksville, nine grandchildren, Walter Daevid (Tripp) Conner III, James Robert Lindsey Conner, Zachary Iaian Neal Conner, all of South Boston, Jacob Roe, Rebecca Cope, Nicholas Cope, Phillip Cope, Lucas Cope and Daniel Cope, all of Clarksville, and her son-in-law W. David Conner II, of South Boston. She was predeceased by her father, Alvis Lindsey Knott, and daughter, Elizabeth Lindsey Cope Conner. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Paschal Baylon Catholic Church. The family will receive friends after the service.
