Mr. Willie Edward Land, 82, of Chase City entered eternal rest on Monday, April 26, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Land was born in Mecklenburg County April 8, 1939 to the late Daniel and Corine Oliver Land. He was a 1957 graduate of West End High School in Skipwith. Mr. Land relocated to New York in 1959; while there he was the owner and operator of an auto mechanic shop in the Bronx. In his later years, he became a truck driver. Mr. Land was a member of Lands Chapel RZUA Church, and a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, Mr. Land was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Land; second wife, Vernell Land, and a son, Rodney. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mary Jane Morton Land of Chase City; children, Lillie Watson of Louisiana, Claudette Onumah (Ike) of California, James Smith of North Carolina, Rosalind and Raynell Smith both of Bronx, NY, Rhonda Davis(Clyde) of Allentown, PA, Miles Morton of Dolphin, VA and Milton Simmons (Tina) of Petersburg; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Anne Oliver of Chase City, Vera Jones and Jenny Dailey both of South Hill, and Carolyn Chavis (Henry) of Richmond; brother, Bobby Boyd (Donell) of South Hill, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City with Rev. Dr. James H. Simmons officiating. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City.
