Mr. William James Roberts Sr., 89 of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. Mr. Roberts was born in Chase City, VA June 5, 1924 to the late James Garfield and Harriet Boyd Roberts. He was a 1943 graduate of historic Thyne Institute, Chase City, VA and retired from teaching after serving 38 years from the Charlotte County School System. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Deacons, chairman of the Board of Trustees and a member of the Senior Choir. Mr. Roberts served on the board of directors of the Thyne Institute Memorial. He was an Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Roberts, and two sisters, Christine Roberts and Alease Puryear. Cherishing his memories are three children, Jacqueline R. McElroy (Rev. Larry) of Roxboro, NC, William J. Roberts Jr. (Michelle) of Chase City, VA and Kenneth A. Roberts (Brenda) of Rougemont, NC; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Raymond Roberts (Margaret) of Vass, NC; devoted friend Ruth Brogdon of Saxe, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. William James Roberts will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Larry McElroy delivering the Eulogy. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. Services 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 Bethlehem Baptist Church Interment Thyne Mem. Presby. Ch. Cem.
