William "Dick" Pettaway

Mr. William “Dick” Pettaway, 67, of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest Friday, October 21, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Pettaway was born in Mecklenburg County, VA August 25, 1949 to the late Freeman and Daisy Small Pettaway. He received his education in the Mecklenburg County School system, and at an early age he joined Island Hill Christian Church, where he served on the usher board. Mr. Pettaway was previously employed by Burlington Industries for 35 years until its closing. He was later employed by Tri-County Community Action Agency, Inc. in South Boston, VA. He loved to drive the head start bus and the children loved him. William was previously married to Joyce S. Pettaway. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hargrove and Anna Pettaway. Cherishing his memories are three children, Wilma Burwell of Buffalo Junction, VA, Soajario Pettaway of Nelson, VA and LeVan Pettaway of Chase City, VA; two adopted sons, Antwan Small of Raleigh, NC and Michael Small of Clarksville, VA; eight grandchildren; two brothers, John Pettaway (Frances) of Nelson, VA and Clarence Pettaway (Mae Ruth) of Nelson, VA; devoted friend, Donna Robinson of Clarksville, VA and a best friend, Sydney Moe Scott and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral Services for Mr. William Pettaway will be conducted 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Island Hill Christian Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. John Jefferson, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
