Mrs. Virgie Pettus Session, 69, of Red Oak, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Sessions was born in Red Oak, VA June 8, 1939 to the late Jordan and Mary Fields Pettus. She lived in Brooklyn, NY most of her life. She retired from Kings County Hospital where she was employed as a nurse. While in New York she was president and treasurer of the Brownsville Senior Citizens, President of Save the Children and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Upon returning to Virginia she became a member of Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Session; two sisters, Maude Boyd and Ardelle Barnes and one brother, Joe Pettus. Cherishing her memories are two children, Irene Session of Red Oak, VA and Roger Session of Brooklyn, NY; six grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Mae Smithson “Catbird” of Clarksville, VA; four brothers, Charlie and Jordan Pettus both of Red Oak, VA, William Pettus of Brooklyn, NY and Matthew Pettus (Inez) of Clarksville, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie Pettus Session will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Prophet Harry L. Williams, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
