Mrs. Thelma Carter,96, of Chase City entered eternal rest on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Chase City Nursing and Rehab Center, Chase City. Mrs. Carter was born July 4, 1916, in Mecklenburg County to the late Ollie and Mollie Holmes Salley. She was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church and attended Concord Baptist Church, where she served many roles in the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Carter, son, Elma Dan Salley, daughter, Loretta Akins, granddaughter, Shelly Barton, a great-grandson, Omar Harris, six sisters and three brothers. Cherishing her memories are one daughter, Ann S. Boyd (Samuel)of Gallatin, TN; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Woodrow Salley (Martha) of Philadelphia, PA, John Salley (Annie) of Yonkers, NY and Thurman Salley (Irene) of Chase City; two sisters, Sadie Wrenn and Mildred Salley both of Chase City; son-in- law, Walter Akins of Newark, NJ; sister-in-law, Endia Salley of Chase City, brother-in-law, Samuel Hayes of Chase City and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Carter will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City with Rev. Raleigh Bagley III, officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City. Service 11:00 A.M.
