Thelbert Davis

Mr. Thelbert Davis, 96 of Chase City, Virginia entered eternal rest Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA.  Mr. Davis was born in Lunenburg County, VA June 12, 1912, one of 13 children born to Hal and Helen Craighead Davis. At the age of 13 Thelbert was baptized and joined Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA where he remained until his health prevented him from attending. In 1941 Thelbert moved to Baltimore, MD and was employed at Baltimore Brick Company and later by General Refractory from 1944 to 1971. Thelbert retired and returned to Chase City, VA in 1980.  Thelbert married Magalene Hurt in 1935 and to this union two children where born, Mary Alice and Herman Lee. In 1946 Thelbert married Virginia Ellen Royster and to this union three sons were born, Ralph, Ryland and Ron.  Thelbert was preceded in death by his 12 siblings, his wife, Virginia Ellen Royster, and a son, Herman Lee.  Cherishing his memories is a daughter, Mary Alice Davis of Baltimore, MD; three sons, Ralph Davis (Janice), Ryland Davis (Diane)  all of Baltimore, MD and Ron Davis (Margaret) of Victoria, VA; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.  Funeral services for Mr. Thelbert Davis will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA with Rev. Jasper Cheeks, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.  Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main Street, Chase City, VA.
