Susan Mary Manley Barnette

Mrs. Susan Mary Manley Barnette, 49, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.   Mrs. Barnette was born April 19, 1966 in Walnut Creek, California, as the eldest child and only daughter born to Rev. James Keith and Judyth Manley. She was a graduate of San Marino High School, San Marino, CA. Susan was united in holy matrimony to Jerome Anthony Barnette, Sr. on December 15, 1995, and this union was blessed with one son. She was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA where she enjoyed church service, and as a breast cancer survivor, Susan participated in many of the church activities that focused on health and wellness. Some of her favorite pastimes included crossword puzzles, writing poems, travel, crocheting and most of all, family.    She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and her uncle, Chuck.   Cherishing her memories are her husband, Jerome A. Barnette, Sr.; son, Jerome A. Barnette, Jr.; parents, Rev.  & Mrs. James K. Manley; two brothers, John Manley (Susan) and Tom Manley(Katy); nieces, Lucia, Lydia, Janay, Alicia Mickelberry and Ashley Blizzard ; nephews, Tom, Joshua, and Harold Jr.; brothers-in-law, Robert N. Barnette, Sr. (Janice), James J. Barnette and Harold N. Barnette; sisters-in-law, Gayle Barnette, Jacqueline Barnette and Carmille Barnette; aunts, Mary Barnette, Mildred Fuller, Betty Oliver, Glinnis Barnette and Doris Rasmussen and one uncle, David Manley.  She is additionally survived by her spiritual sister, Patricia Burton.   Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Mary Manley Barnette will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 11, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City with Rev. Raleigh Bagley III delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Public viewing will be held on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 P.M.   Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
