Stanley C. Burwell

Mr. Stanley C. Burwell, 74, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Friday, March 14, 2014 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, NC. Mr. Burwell was born in Clarksville, VA June 29, 1939 to the late Ulysses S. and Sallie Evans Burwell.  He attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County, and after graduation he attended Virginia State University, Petersburg, VA. At an early age, he joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2, Clarksville, VA. He relocated to Washington, DC where he joined Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Suitland, MD; there he served as a deacon for over 20 years. While in DC, he installed drywall for D. L. Boyd, Inc. for over 15 years. Upon returning to Clarksville, he reunited with Cedar Grove Baptist Church # 2 where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the male chorus. He was a former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 28 years of service. In recent years, he was a part-time employee of the Mecklenburg County School System as a school bus driver. Mr. Burwell was a 30 year veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings; Linwood, Thomas, Convey, Robert, Eula and Lloyd. Cherishing his memories are his wife of over 41 years, Marian M. Burwell of  Clarksville, VA; two children; Darian and Bradford Burwell, both of Maryland; one brother, Everett Burwell of Clarksville, VA; five sisters-in-law, Sharon Burwell of Brooklyn, NY, Mary Burwell of Clarksville, VA, Carol Coates (Otis) of Camp Springs, MD, Maxine Richardson (Osborne) of Suitland, MD and Anita Grays of Mitchellville, MD; two brothers-in-law, Gregory Grays (Patricia) of Clinton, MD and Joseph Parker of Fort Washington, MD and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Stanley C. Burwell will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Clarksville Presbyterian Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Cornelius Ogburn, officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2 Cemetery, Clarksville, VA. Public viewing for family and friends  will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at the church. Arrangements are by C. H.
