Shirley Hardy Johnson

Mrs. Shirley D. Hardy Johnson, 83, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. Shirley was born October 10, 1936 to the late Harry and Grace K. Hardy, the oldest of seven children. At an early age she joined Concord Baptist Church in Chase City, VA, and remained a member until her passing. She was a graduate of West End High School in Chase City, VA. After graduating, she moved to Jersey City, NJ for employment opportunities and worked for Block Drug Company and Best Foods for a number of years. While in New Jersey, she met and married William Earl Johnson and this union was blessed with three sons. She later relocated to Chase City, VA, and reestablished her connection to the Concord community and church. Shirley was a devoted wife, and loving mother who worked to provide love and joy to her family. She was caring, nurturing, and truly a special person loved by many. She loved attending church, being with her family, and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her oldest son, Kevin Earl Johnson, and two brothers, Harold R. and Henry F. Hardy. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, William E. Johnson of Chase City, VA; two sons, Deron G. Johnson (Odessa) of McDonough, GA and Craig W. Johnson (Jennifer) of Garner, NC; one grandson, Ira Brandon Johnson of New Jersey; four sisters, Jo-Ann H. Bagley (Thomas) of Richmond, VA, Annella H. Powell, Nancy R. Archie (Frank), and Cora H. Pettus all of Chase City, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service for Mrs. Shirley D. Hardy Johnson will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley, IIII officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be directed to the Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 341, Chase City, VA 23924.
