Ms. Shirley Downey Burdine Marrow, 83, of Nelson, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Durham Regional Hospital in Durham, NC. Ms. Marrow was born one of six children in Buffalo Junction, VA on June 22, 1936 to the late Robert "Bob" Downey and Lizzie Perkins Downey. She received her education from the schools of Mecklenburg County VA. She was baptized at an early age at Wharton Memorial Baptist Church in Nelson, VA where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Missionary member, Choir Director and member. Ms. Marrow relocated to New Jersey where she met and married the late Robert Lee Burdine, Sr., and this union was blessed with four children. Upon returning to Virginia, she gained employment with Russell Stover Candies, retiring after 29 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, gardening, baking, bird watching, fishing and perfecting her craft of quilting. In addition to her parents and first husband, Ms. Marrow was preceded in death by her second husband, Harry Marrow, Sr. Cherishing her memories are her children, Robert L. Burdine, Jr. (Pam) of Halifax, VA, Priscilla Burdine of Durham, NC, Alex Burdine of Creedmoor, NC, and Linda (Dee Dee) Garrett (Guy) of Durham, NC; five grandchildren, Andre', Dexter (Zulivette), Phyllis (Kayt), Priscilla and Shirley; three great-grandchildren, Eransoel, Valentina, and Xander; five siblings, Julia Ann Clay Hargrove of Clarksville, VA, Earnest Russell Downey of Buffalo Junction, VA, Robert O. Downey, Jr. of East Orange, NJ, Hallie Loretta Gamble of Perth Amboy, NJ, and Mary Alice Downey of Nelson, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Due to the mandates from Governor Ralph Northam, a private graveside service was conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Downey Memorial Garden, Nelson, VA with Pastor Hammond delivering the eulogy.
