Samuel Russell Davis

Mr. Samuel Russell Davis, 70, of Hampton, VA and formerly of Arlington, VA entered eternal rest Friday, March 12, 2010 at the residence of his daughter. Mr. Davis was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, December 18, 1939 to the late John H. and Sesie Bell Davis. He received his education in Virginia public schools, and at an early age joined the Saint John Baptist Church. Samuel and the Davis family moved to North Carolina when he was a teenager. In the 1960’s, Samuel left North Carolina and moved to Arlington, VA, where he had several jobs until his health began to fail in June of 2009.  He worked at Driscoll Brothers Service Station and Garage for nearly twenty years as a mechanic with his twin brother Daniel.  He did construction work for many years as a laborer and carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife Estelle. Cherishing his memories are, one daughter, Angela Smith (James Whitney) of Hampton, VA; five grandchildren, Nina, Nicole, Crystal, Alex and Jamie; six sisters, Muriel and Mary Ann of Long Island, NY, Lois of Jersey City, NJ, Helen (Fred Booker) of Richmond, VA, Virginia of Henderson, NC, and Diana of Durham, NC; three brothers  (twin) Daniel of Stovall, NC, John Willis of Oxford, NC,, and James “JD” Davis of Arlington, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Russell Davis will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Saint John Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Charles Sands, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
