Sadie Salley Whren

Mrs. Sadie B. Whren, 89, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Chase City Health and Rehab, Chase City, VA. Mrs. Whren was born in Mecklenburg County, VA October 1, 1925 to the late Ollie and Mollie Holmes Salley. She was a graduate of the South Hill Training School in South Hill, VA. After graduation, Mrs. Whren relocated to Hackensack, NJ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she served as an usher for over 40 years. She worked as a dietitian at Hackensack Community Hospital, Hackensack, NJ until her retirement in 1991. After retirement, she returned to Chase City, VA and joined Williams Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fillex Whren, six sisters and three brothers. Cherishing her memories are one sister, Mildred Salley of Chase City, VA; three brothers, Woodrow Sallie (Martha) of Philadelphia, PA, Thurman Salley (Irene) of Chase City, VA and John Salley (Laura) of Yonkers, NY; sister-in-law, Endia Salley; eleven nieces; ten nephews; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie B. Whren will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Williams Grove Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Andy Hargrove, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
