Ruth Alma Richards Hayes

Mrs. Ruth Alma Richards Hayes, 92, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on March 19, 2021 at her residence. Mrs. Hayes was born in Mecklenburg County, VA May 1, 1928 to the late Ella and Joe Keeton. At an early age, she joined Greater Union Baptist Church where she was an active choir member. Later she moved her membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City. She also attended Shiloh Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, Virginia where they accepted her as if she was a member. She was employed a number of years at Jonbil Manufacturing, and Craddock Terry in Chase City, VA. Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Women of Color social group. She loved bingo, dancing, playing cards, her children, grandkids, and just people in general. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hayes; daughter, Pauline White; son, Paul Hayes; and sisters, Etta Keeton, Gladys Mallory, and Roberta White. Cherishing her memory are her children, Shirley Greene, Willie Hayes, Clara Sands, James Hayes (Faye), Ronald Hayes (Delores), and Cynthia Staten (Joseph) all of Chase City, VA and William Hayes (Rosie) of Fayetteville, NC; 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Love, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee officiating. Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 2nd from 2:00 PM until 6PM. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City.
