Ruby Smith Overby

Mrs. Ruby Smith Overby, 89, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Saturday January 26, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Overby was born in Louisburg, NC August 8, 1923 to the late James and Sadie Clayton Smith. She was a member of Saint Luke Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA, where she was a member of the Deacon Board, Usher Board, Missionary, Pastors Aid and former church treasurer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Overby was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Overby. Cherishing her memories are six children, Avon O. Howard of Richmond, VA, Arlean Knight and Abner Overby of Boydton, VA, Lacindes Saunders, Ruth Saunders and Marilyn Boyd of Chase City, VA; eight foster children, Calvin Terry, Lorraine O. Bragg, Lenza Terry all of Richmond, VA, Dexter Terry (Edith) of North Carolina, Rev. Chester Terry (Helen) of Clarksville, VA, Reedis Hargrove of Alexandria, VA, Brenda Terry of Brooklyn, NY and Linda Terry of Boydton, VA; 32 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Boswell of Chase City, VA, Reedis Smith of Mount Vernon, NY, Mable Smith of Saxe, VA and Shelby Terry of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Dewey Smith (Magaline) of East Orange, NJ and Leamon Smith of Bridgeport, CT; one daughter-in-law, one sister-in-law, devoted care giver, Lena Wilson and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Smith Overby will be conducted 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Saint Luke Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Curtis Moore, delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be  Wednesday 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
