Ruby Marable Johnson

Mrs. Ruby Marable Johnson answered the Master’s call and slipped quietly into eternal rest Monday, April 28, 2014 in Mount Vernon, NY.  Mrs. Johnson was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia June 16, 1916 to the late Willie Alexander Marable and Mary Elizabeth Thompson Marable. At an early age she accepted Christ and became a member of Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA. She remained a member there until she moved to Yonkers, New York and joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church. In 1981, Mrs. Johnson returned to Lunenburg County, Virginia and resumed her Christian service at Mount Mitchell Baptist Church.  Mrs. Johnson served in various organizations in both churches.    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband Samuel (Bootsy) Johnson, seven sisters, and two brothers. Cherishing her memories are, one daughter, Yvonne Denise Johnson of Mt Vernon, New York; six grandchildren, Kellique Johnson Jackson (Harold) of Concord North Carolina, Ta-Tanishia Johnson Pearson (Fausto), Aja Johnson, Divine Stover, and Victoria Ryer all of Mt Vernon, New York, and Joseph Whiteside III of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; 14 great-grandchildren; one God-child, Willa Mae Wilson of Baltimore, Maryland; one sister, Elloise M Callahan of Victoria, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Barbara G. Marable of Baltimore, Maryland; a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Marable Johnson will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Mount Mitchell Baptist Church, Drakes Branch, VA with Rev. Fran S. Jackson delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends, Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. Services 1:00 P.M.
