Mrs. Ruby Barnes Carter, 92, of Boydton, VA was called from labor to eternal reward on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Sentara Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville, VA. Mrs. Carter was born July 30, 1927, one of five children born to James Henry and Rosa Walker Barnes in Philadelphia, PA. She received her formal education in the Mecklenburg County Public Schools, and attended the historic Thyne Institute in Chase City. She was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1936. Throughout her adult life, Ruby worked as a machine operator in many local industries until her retirement. In addition to her parents, James and Rosa Barnes, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Jackson Carter, Jr., and her son, Roy III. Left to cherish her precious memories are two sons, Rev. Ethelbert of Boydton, VA and Garland of Henrico, VA; one sister, Landora B. Clark of Chase City, VA; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and life-long friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Barnes Carter will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA, with Rev. Dr. Ricky A. Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Bluestone Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 PM. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
