Rubin Herbert Garner

Mr. Rubin Herbert Garner (Pokey), 84, of Buffalo Junction, VA entered eternal rest Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mr. Garner was born in Virgilina, VA January 20, 1937 to the late Jessie and Louise Tuck Garner. He received his education in the Halifax County school system, and was a former heavy equipment operator for Red Oak Excavating. He enjoyed watching comedy, bulldozer videos, fishing, playing the harmonica and the guitar. In addition to his parents, Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Alice Coleman Garner; son, Douglas Garner, two grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters. Left to cherish his memories are four daughters, Fay Newton (James) of Buffalo Junction, VA, Carolyn Johnson, Marie Perry (Cleveland) and Demetris Garner all of Durham, NC; three sons, Herbert Coleman (Shirley) of Buffalo Junction, VA, Glenn Garner (Donna) and Bobbie Garner (Dee) all of Chester, PA; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brother, Harold Garner (Vera) of Roxboro, NC; a devoted niece raised has his sister, Stella Venable (Clarence) of Clarksville, VA; two brothers-in-law, Alfred J. Coleman (Edith) of Creedmoor, NC and Rev. Roger Coleman (Queen) of Buffalo Junction, VA; sister-in-law, Frances Garner of Newport News, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Sunday, April 25, 2021 on the campus of C.H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Charles Davidson conducting the service. Interment will be private. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Saturday from 2 until 6 PM. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
