Roxie Mae Downey Hester

Mrs. Roxie Mae Downey Hester, 89, of Nelson, VA entered eternal rest Friday, May 5, 2006 at South Boston Manor, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Hester was born in Mecklenburg County, VA April 1, 1917 to the late Ernest and Elizabeth Downey. She attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, was a member of Wharton Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson, VA and was a homemaker. Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her husband Willie F. Hester, brothers, Paul, Silas, Chester, and Willie; her sisters Minnie Hester, Nannie Paterson, Mattie Smith and Gertrude Taylor. Cherishing her memories is one daughter, Kaye Frances Downey of South Hill, VA; one granddaughter, Frances Lynn Grant, of College Park, GA, one great-granddaughter, Lachelle Hart of College Park, GA; one great-great granddaughter, Tasja Grant of College Park, GA; two brothers, Robert O. Downey, Nelson, VA, and Arthur C. Downey, Oxford, NC; two sisters, Lucy Benjamin of New York and Odell Ellison of Philadelphia, PA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Roxie Mae Downey Hester will be conducted 12:00 Noon Wednesday, May 10 at Wharton Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson, VA with Rev. James A. Hudson, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton Memorial Gardens.   Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service 216 4th Street, Clarksville, VA.
