Roger Wesley Toone, Sr.

Mr. Roger Wesley Toone, Sr., 71,  affectionately known as “Debo”, of Victoria, VA entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Toone was born in Yonkers, NY on February 27, 1944 to the late Arthur and Leola Fierce Toone. He received his education in the Yonkers Public School and at an early age joined Messiah Baptist Church.  He was formerly employed by the Yonkers Public School System, and upon retiring, relocated to Rehoboth, VA, where he worked for Burlington Industries, Clarksville, VA and the Town of Chase City.  He joined Calvary Baptist Church in Victoria, VA where he served on the Senior and Brotherhood Choirs. Mr. Toone was a  lead singer with the Sensational Sunrisers of Chase City and a member of the Masonic Lodge #34 in Yonkers, NY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Darron Toone; a grandson, Tyler Wesley Toone and two brothers, James and Samuel (Leroy) Toone. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Yvonne Toone of Victoria, VA; his children, Roger W. Toone, Jr. (Erika), Ronell J. Toone (Edna), Shanell L. Toone all of Chase City, VA, Arthur  and Aubrey Toone of Brooklyn, NY; one goddaughter, nine grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Toone (Lucille) of Chatham, VA; three sisters, Donna Oliver (Altonia) and Angelia Duboise of Yonkers, NY, and Maria Tatum (David) of Saxe, VA; two sisters-in-law, Doris and Arcelia Toone of Yonkers, NY; four aunts, special friend, Thomas Morton of Clarksville, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Roger Wesley Toone, Sr. will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA with Rev. Gwedolyn Starr, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.  Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Monday from 10:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
