Mr. Robert Lee Carter, 88, of Chase City, VA entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 28, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Carter was born in Mecklenburg County Virginia January 1, 1928 to the late Lee and Henrietta Pulliam Carter. He was educated in the Mecklenburg public school system, and was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. After school he lived in New York for many years before retuning back home to Mecklenburg County. He was employed for many years driving trucks for various companies; the last being The New York Times. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wives, Beatrice, Glenice, Shirley, and Estella Carter; his sons, Alphonso, Langston, Jemel and Larry; a daughter, Virginia; his brother, Willie Carter and his sister, Sarah Bell. Cherishing his memories are four children, Robert Watts (Josephine) of Chase City VA, Jerrie Carter of Chesapeake VA, Frank Carter (Yolanda) of McDonough GA and Maurice Carter of New York NY; 27 grandchildren, a large number of great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carrie Carter; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Carter will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Minister Clarence Noel, officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
