Reverend Minnie Beatrice McCoy, 85, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Chase City entered eternal rest on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Raleigh Rehabilitation Center.


Rev. McCoy was born in Chase City, VA on March 18, 1939 to the late Amos and Audrey Oliver Sherman. At an early age, she joined Bluestone Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA and was a graduate of West End High School, Class of 1957. Rev. McCoy obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Hunter College and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from Fordham University in New York, New York. She earned a Master of Divinity Degree from Duke Divinity School.


She answered her call to ministry in 1993 and was ordained by the Wake Baptist Association and American Baptist Churches USA in 1999. Rev. McCoy was an Associate Minister and Chairperson of the Evangelism Ministry at Martin Street Baptist Church. Prior to entering the ministry, she was owner of a management consulting firm for Fortune 500 companies, colleges, and governmental agencies.


She served as President of the Black Seminarians Union, Duke Divinity School; was a member of the American Baptist Women and the Raleigh Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance; served on the Raleigh Area Concerts of Prayer; was the Ordination Coordinator for the American Baptist Churches of the South, and received the 2008 NAACP Raleigh Wake Humanitarian Award of the Year.


In addition to her parents, Rev. McCoy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McCoy, and two brothers Roger Sherman and Joseph Sherman.


She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kisha McLain (Jerome); two grandchildren, Tasha McLain and Roman McLain; two bonus children, Ernest McCoy and Patty Brooks (Willie); her youngest sibling, Frances Sherman; four nephews, Roger Donnell Sherman, Odell Sherman, Robert Foster and Allan Ferrer; daughters-in-law, Vivian McCoy and Carolyn McCoy; brother-in-law, Bobby McCoy (Carolyn); sisters-in-law, Rita Cleveland and Ethel Rosenboro, along with 10 bonus grandchildren, 10 bonus great grandchildren and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.



Funeral Services for Reverend Minnie Beatrice McCoy will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Friday, February 28, 2025 at Martin Street Baptist Church, 1001 E. Martin Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 with the pastor, Dr. Shawn F. Singleton, officiating. Visitation will begin on Friday from 11:30 A.M. until 12:00 Noon at the church. Burial will follow 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA.
