Rev. Willie Lee Carter, Sr., 87, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Rev. Carter was born in Skipwith, VA on May 8, 1932 to the late Timothy and Edna Robertson Carter. He attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools and furthered his education in carpentry. At the age of 10, Rev. Carter joined Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Skipwith where he remained a faithful member. He served in many capacities in the church, including Adult Sunday School Teacher, Building Fund Treasurer, Deacon, and as Pastor. In addition to Rocky Mount, Rev. Carter pastored New Light Baptist Church in Skipwith, First Baptist Church of Lacrosse, and Shiloh Baptist Church in Boydton. Rev. Carter was a licensed contractor, and owner and operator of W & W Construction. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service, and was a U. S. Army veteran having served for 22 years. Rev. Carter enjoyed sports and took pride in managing the Fairview Mets. He was a Mason, and an active member of Bikers On The Move For Jesus. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and gardening. In addition to his parents, Rev. Carter was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Robert, Tim and Richard, and three sisters, Rosa Smith, Corrine Salley, and Mae Carter-Coles. Cherishing his memories are his wife of 52 years, Lucy Brown-Carter of Chase City, VA; a daughter, Wilnette Carter of Glen Allen, VA; a son, Willie L. Carter, Jr. of Chase City, VA; five adopted children, Dr. Vanessa Patillo Bumpass and Bryant Bumpass both of La Crosse, VA, and Alphonso, Nicole and Makayla Young all of Alberta, VA; god-daughter, Kourtney Logan of Boydton, VA; sister, Geneva Carter-Wilson of Chase City, VA; devoted niece who was like a sister, Virginia (Ardell) Powell of Chase City, VA, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Rev. Willie Lee Carter, Sr. will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, Skipwith, VA with Rev. Dennis King, eulogist and Rev. Cornelius A. Ogburn, presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City.
