Rev. John Mason Terry, 93, of Plainfield, NJ and formerly of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Rev. Terry was born in Clarksville, VA on March 11, 1927 to the late John T. Terry and Patty Johnson. He was a graduate of West End High School, and was baptized at a young age at Mt. Ararat Church in Clarksville where he served as Sunday school superintendent, president of the senior choir, and was a member of the missionary board. He was formerly employed by Robbins Mill in Clarksville, VA. In 1960, he relocated to Morristown, NJ where he became a licensed minister, serving as assistant pastor at Union Baptist Church, Morristown, NJ, later serving at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dover, NJ. In March 1974, he was ordained and became the pastor of Miracle Missionary Baptist Church of Christ, Inc. in Plainfield serving for over 45 years. In 1981 he became president of the Garden State Missionary Baptist Convention of New Jersey. Rev. Terry was very active in the National Baptist Convention of America, and served on the Foreign Mission board. He retired from Tea Company in Morris Plains, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Quintin Terry. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 72 years, Mary Small Terry of the home; one daughter, Theresa Terry-Williams of Harrisburg, PA; one son, Simeon of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Michael and Joy; six great-grandchildren, Imani, Kymoni, Mychael, Mason, Chiah, and Malachi; four godchildren, Eunice Terry, Jennifer Bullock, Anthony Winston, and Brian Boatwright; brother, Alaster Terry of Morristown, NJ; sister, Catherine Burwell of Morristown, NJ; two daughters-in-law, Gay and Alma Terry, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A public viewing for Rev. John Mason Terry will be held on Monday, September 7, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. at C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA. Interment will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarksville, VA. Due to Covid-19, a mask will be required for all viewings and services, and we ask that you practice social distancing. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
