Raymond Marshall Puryear

Raymond Marshall Puryear 60, entered eternal rest Monday, March 16, 2009 at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veteran Administration Hospital, Richmond, VA. Raymond was born in Mecklenburg County August 8, 1948 the youngest son of Olander and Mary Hall Finley Puryear. He was a graduate of West End High School, Class of 1968 and a member of Wharton Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson, VA. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam. He was employed with Burlington Industries for many years. He also was employed with the town of Clarksville and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Cherishing his memories are a devoted wife, Augusta Puryear of Oxford, NC, two children, Briant O. Puryear of Oxford, NC and Veronica Puryear, Ph.D. of Germantown, MD, one granddaughter, Brianna M. Puryear of Red Oak, VA, four brothers, Louis and Freddie of Buffalo Junction, VA, Cecil Puryear of Nelson, VA, and Thomas Puryear of Montclair, NJ; one sister, Susan Harris of Oxford, NC,  mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary M. Downey of Oxford, NC;  three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, four step-sisters, two step-brothers, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Marshall Puryear will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Wharton Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson, VA with Rev. James A. Hudson, Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Wharton Memorial Gardens, Nelson, VA. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 216 4th St. Clarksville, VA.
