Pearly A. Powell

Mr. Pearly Arthur Powell, 91, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at the W. S. Hundley Annex, South Hill, VA. Mr. Powell was born in Mecklenburg County, VA July 5, 1917, son of the late Tom and Sophia Hayes Powell. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was a member of Williams Grove Baptist Church, Chase City, VA where he had served in the capacity of Deacon.  He spent the majority of his life farming. Pearly was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie E. Powell, his son, Pearl Powell Jr. and his daughter, Edna Mae Powell. He is survived by two granddaughters, Sonya Hardy of Chase City, VA and Patrice Gamble of Stone Mountain, GA; three great-grandchildren, Zackary Roberts, Nubia Gamble and Nasir Gamble; seven sisters-in-law, five brothers-in-law, a devoted nephew, Rev. William L. Powell and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Pearly Arthur Powell will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 at Williams Grove Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Dr. Frank S. Harrison, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
