Mrs. Odessa Wardrick, 87, of New Jersey entered eternal rest Thursday, December 17, 2020. Mrs. Wardrick was born in Richmond, VA to the late Furman Hicks and Betsie Clegg on November 24, 1933. As a young girl, she moved to New Brunswick, NJ. Mrs. Wardrick was educated in the NJ school system, and graduated from high school in New Brunswick, NJ. Upon graduation, she moved to Newark where she was employed by several companies, including Revlon. She later worked for C.R. Bard, Inc. (Murray Hill, NJ), where she was employed for over 25 years until her retirement in 1998. Mrs. Wardrick was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Newark, NJ and later joined and became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Newark. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wardrick was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlie and Melvin Hicks, and her sister, Ann Moody. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Wardrick, Sr.; son, James Wardrick, Jr. of Suwanee, GA; sisters, Mary (“Pollie”) Zanders of Bunnlevel, NC and Beverly Johnson, of Baltimore, MD; aunt, Cora McKoy; two nephews, Herbert Hicks and Theodore (Jackie) Zanders both of Albany, NY; sisters-in-law, Louise Hicks of Bunnlevel, NC, Rebecca Wardrick of Newark, NJ and Emma Wardrick of Louisburg, NC, and a vast number other loving relatives and caring friends. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Odessa Wardrick will be conducted 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Easter Cemetery, Boydton, VA. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon funeral home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mask will be required for all viewings and services. We ask that you adhere to all guidelines, and practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
