Mrs. Nannie Bell Lyons, 83, entered eternal rest on Monday, April 13, 2020. Mrs. Lyons was born one of four children in Skipwith, VA on November 21, 1936 to the late Charlie and Ineas Smith. She received her education in the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA. Mrs. Lyons was baptized at an early age at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She relocated to Hamden, CT where she worked at Jet Cleaners for more than 30 years. She was a very hard worker and never missed a day from work, sick or well. She was a member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church for more than 40 years; while there she served on many committees including Food Pantry, Kitchen Committee, and she was a member of the Senior Choir. Mrs. Lyons was an Eastern Star, and a member of the Elks Club where she served the community. She loved family gatherings, baseball, attending church, and spending time with her granddaughter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Lyons; son, Claude Lyons and two brothers, Joe Lee Smith and Charlie Smith, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Margaret Lyons; granddaughter, Yolanda Lyons Tubman (Alfred); one sister, Mary Puryear (Edward); four sisters-in-law, Mary Smith, Barbara Lyons, Ruth Lyons and Ann Pauline Nelson; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Lyons and William Lyons (Juanita), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Due to the mandates from Governor Ralph Northam, a private graveside service was conducted Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dennis King delivering the eulogy. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
