Mozelle Carter Wood

Mrs. Mozelle Carter Wood, 90, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Friday, May 20, 2022 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA. Mrs. Carter was born on January 31, 1932 in Boydton, VA to the late Roy Henderson and Mabel Bryson Carter. She received her education in the public schools of Mecklenburg County and graduated from the historical Thyne Institute in 1949. At an early age, she joined St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Boydton, VA. After marrying the late Ezra G. Wood, she moved her membership to Concord Baptist Church in Chase City. Mrs. Wood sang and travelled with the senior choir during the early days of her membership; she also was a member of the hospitality committee during homecomings. She worked as a housekeeper, at various manufacturing companies, was a teacher’s aide, and was a dedicated bus driver for Mecklenburg County Public Schools, retiring after 22 years of service. Mrs. Wood loved to travel; she travelled to 23 states and to Nassau, Bahamas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ezra Grover Wood (“Honey”); one sister, Ardelle Carter Grimes, and three brothers, Roy Carter, Jr., Gilbert Carter, and Charles Carter. Cherishing her memory are her loving and devoted children, Ezra G. Wood, Jr. and Mabel Janet Wood both of Chase City, VA; two sisters, Helen Evans (George) of Boydton, VA and Mildred Wood of Chase City, VA, and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Mozelle Carter Wood will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley, III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. A mask is required for all viewings and services. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
