Michael Craig Nelson

Mr. Michael Craig Nelson, 52, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Nelson was born in Newark, NJ on April 18, 1963 to Marshall V. Nelson, Jr. and the late Dorothea N. Nelson. Michael was a member of First Baptist Church in Vauxhall, NJ.  He received his early education from Scotch Plains Public Schools and graduated from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, NJ in 1981. He later attended Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA and upon relocating to Chase City worked as a machinist at Nipro Glass Americas. Cherishing his fond memories are a devoted father; Marshall V. Nelson, Jr. of Midlothian, Virginia; two loving brothers, Rodney J. Snell (Darlene) of Cliffwood, New Jersey;  Marshall V. Nelson, III (Tanja) of Moseley, Virginia;  five nephews,  Ryan J. Snell, Randall J. Snell, Marshall V. Nelson, IV, Raymond J. Snell and Travis N. Nelson; one precious great-niece, Jayla M. Snell; five affectionate aunts, Linda L. Leak, Betty J. Scott, Juliette Barber (Deion) , Pamela Isabelle (Lee) and Donna Nelson-Byrd (David); two uncles; Malcolm Nelson (Katherine) and Alphonse Leak (Barbara),  a cousin who is as dear as  a sister, Ila L. Liggon;  cousins with special childhood memories, Deidre Snell-Jackson, Denene James,  and Tyrone Leak; a cousin who is special like a nephew, Jason Leak-Lockhart; a dedicated fiancée  and caregiver, Ethel Mae Dailey and a vast number of loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Michael Craig Nelson will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 29, 2015 at Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Garland Liggon, officiating.   Burial will follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, South Hill, VA. Public Viewing and Family Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
