Melvin V. Hayes

Mr. Melvin Vincent Hayes, 54, of Newark, NJ and formerly of Mecklenburg County, VA entered eternal rest Friday, March 9, 2007 at University Hospital, Newark, NJ. Mr. Hayes was born in Mecklenburg County, VA May 19, 1952 to the late Melvin L. and Clara B. Hayes. He attended the old Wightman School and was a member of Williams Grove Baptist Church, Chase City, VA and was employed with Newark Sanitation Dept. Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by one child and one brother. Cherishing his memories are 9 children, Melvin Hayes (Kellie) of MD, Vinceulah Hayes of NC, John Hayes of MD, Zodie Oliver (Chris) of Richmond, VA, Tamara Kendrick, Claudia, Katesha and Randy Sanford all of Newark, NJ; his mother Mrs. Clara B. Hayes of Manhattan, NY; 28 grandchildren, three brothers, Calvin Hayes (Karla) of South Hill, VA, Kenneth Hayes (Mary) of East Strougburg, PA, and David Hayes, Kenbridge, VA; six sisters, Thelma Fuller (William), , Theresa Freeman (John), Dorice Hayes, Annie Fuller (Ralph) all of Mt. Vernon, NY, Alma Mayo (Nelson) of Baskerville, VA and Melvina Hayes of Kenbridge, VA; four uncles, two aunts, step-,other Edith M. Hayes, a devoted companion Deborah Sanford and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Vincent Hayes will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Williams Grove Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Dr. Frank Harrison, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
