Melvin L. Hargrove

Mr. Melvin L. Hargrove, 61, of Baltimore, MD entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Northwest Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Hargrove was born November 16, 1958 in Baltimore, MD to the late Al and Florence Hargrove. He attended Baltimore City Public Schools, and was a 1976 graduate of Northwestern High School. While there, he excelled at football. He was proud to be a Northwestern Wildcat, so much, that he later joined the school’s alumni board for his graduating class. He furthered his education at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD, and was a former machinist for W.R. Grace Chemical Company. Mr. Hargrove was an active member of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD, and enjoyed visiting his family in Chase City, VA. He loved football, and was a die-hard fan of The Dallas Cowboys football team. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alphonso Hargrove and a niece, Nicole Jones. He leaves to cherish his loving memories a brother, Allen Hargrove (Marshell); sister, Theresa Jones; two nieces, Tenia Hargrove and Shanita Shaw; one nephew, Dwayne Griffin; one great-niece, Khori; four great-nephews, Lamont Jr., Kameron, Khalil, and Davone Jr.; two aunts, Christine (James) and Mary V. (Bob); four uncles, Nathaniel (Louise), Mataw (Gail), James, and Curtis; two god-daughters, Tarin and Lauren Boone; two lifelong friends, Milton and Fran Boone; four devoted cousins, Renee, Karen, Kurt, and Ka’Ron, and a host of devoted family and friends. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the Boyd Family Cemetery, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris officiating. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Due to Covid-19, a mask will be required for all viewings and services, and we ask that you practice social distancing. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
