Melvin Eugene Newton

Mr. Melvin Eugene Newton, Sr., 57 of Midlothian, VA entered eternal rest Friday, March 11, 2011 at VCU/MCV hospital  Richmond, VA. Mr. Newton was born in Halifax County Virginia September 2, 1953 to the late Thomas Roosevelt Newton and Lucy Irby Newton.  He was a 1971 graduate of Bluestone Senior High School, and later served in the U. S. Army.  Mr. Newton retired after 35 years of service from the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC as Printing Supervisor. Mr. Melvin E. Newton was preceded in death by his father, Thomas R. Newton and a daughter, Lavonda Annette Walker. Cherishing his memories are his wife, Stephanie G. Newton of Midlothian; son, Melvin E. Newton II and daughter, Erica D. Newton; five grandchildren, Keonte Walker, Keona  Sydnor, Teyon Newton, Jeremiah Walker and Ayden Hill; his mother, Lucy W. Newton; sisters, Gwendolyn N. Yancey, Regina N. Hall, and Cynthia N. Smith; brothers-in-law, Michael D. Hall, Billy Ray Peterson, Robert Jones (Betty), Jerel Scott and Carol Simley, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Eugene Newton will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Saint Mark Baptist Church, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Derrick W. Horton officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
