Mattie Lou Smith

Mrs. Mattie Lou Smith, 75, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston, VA. Mrs. Smith was born in Monticello, GA Sept. 21, 1933 to the late James E.  and Cordelia Bowden Whitening . She attended the schools of Hillsborough, GA and Newark, NJ. Mrs. Smith was a retired employee of Continental Insurance of New Jersey. She was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness for 42 years. She is survived by her husband, James E. Smith of Chase City, VA; three children, Deloris Webber, Hillside, NJ, Cynthia Ann Whitening of Patterson, NJ and Craig D. Smith of Elizabeth, NJ; six grandchildren, Marcus D. Saunders of Albuquerque, NM, Kia Cooper of Newark, NJ, Quwee Whitening of Irvington, NJ, D. Whitening of Hillside, NJ, Aiesha Whitening of East Orange, NJ, and Justin A. Smith of Clark Summit, PA; six great-grandchildren, one aunt A.D. Riley of Detroit, MI, six sisters-in-law and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A memorial service for Mrs. Mattie Lou Smith will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, South Hill, VA with Brother Jim White, officiating. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main St., Chase City, VA.
