Mataw Boyd Sr.

Mr. Mataw Boyd, Sr., 79, of District Heights, MD departed this life on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Mr. Boyd, affectionately known as “Dickie”, was born in Chase City, VA on June 4, 1944 to the late Nathaniel and Lillie Boyd. At an early age he joined First Baptist Church in Wylliesburg, VA. He would later attend Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, MD. In the early 1970s, Mr. Boyd begin a long-term career with Clark Construction company, retiring in 2019. Through the years, he, along with family, worked to maintain the Boyd family home and farm. You could always count on him to be consistent and reliable, as he was a dedicated hard-worker. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and had a great appreciation for fine automobiles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tashia Solis, and four siblings, Adam Tyree Boyd, Curtis Boyd, Florence Hargrove and Everlean Boyd.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Gail Boyd; nine children: Mataw Boyd, Jr., Kevin Boyd, Alphonso Boyd, Florence Owens-Lomax, Mary Boyd, Tomeka Mattews, Tia Boyd, Tiffany Boyd and Tonia Gray; a host of grandchildren; three siblings: Nathaniel Boyd, James Boyd and Christine Jackson, seven in-laws, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Mataw Boyd, Sr. will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Rev. Marvin Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery in Chase City. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M.
