Ms. Mary Smithson Pettus, 77, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Saturday, June 16, 2012 at her residence. Ms. Pettus was born in Mecklenburg County, VA January 16, 1935 to the late Floyd and Adelaide Oliver Smithson. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA, was a member of Holy Name Church of Jesus, Chase City, VA and a former Eastern Star and former member of House Hold of Ruth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Lawyer Hector, Jr. and Pearlene Hector; one grandchild, Pierre Hector; one great-grandchild, Terrell Smith; two sisters, Anna Lou Morse and Susan Anna Smith; one brother, Richard L. Smithson. Cherishing her memories are four children, Novella H. Hayes of Boydton, VA, Linda Hector and Mary L. Jones of Chase City, VA, and Anna B. Hector of Clarksville, VA; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; four sisters-in-law, Bernice Smithson, Thelma Smithson, Beatrice Washington and Pearl Hector; three brothers-in-law, Richard Morse, Henry Lewis Hector and Ed Hector; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Ms. Mary Smithson Pettus will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 22, 2012 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Pastor Gladys Watson, officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for Ms. Pettus will be Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
