Ms. Marsha Yolanda Harris, affectionately known as “Lannie” entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Georgetown Medstar Hospital in Washington, DC.


Ms. Harris was born in Halifax County, Virginia on December 18, 1966, to the late Flora “Butch” Harris and Willie Marshall Harris Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and attended St. Luke Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA. She continued to worship at St. Luke and various churches in Washington, DC until her passing. Ms. Harris attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County and was an avid softball player. She graduated from Bluestone Senior School She attended Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, VA and graduated with honors. While attending St. Paul’s College, she was a member of multiple organizations while also continuing to play her beloved softball. She became a member of a sorority, The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.


Ms. Harris began her career as an educator in the school system where she was taught the value of education. This came full circle as she began teaching in Mecklenburg Public Schools in 1989 after graduation. Shortly, thereafter, Marsha moved to PG County, MD Public Schools. Ultimately, she found her home in the Public School System of Washington, DC. In September of 1991, she served at KC Lewis Elementary School and later transferred to Miner Elementary School and continued to serve the children, parents, families and community at large until her passing. She was a lifelong learner with global educational experiences having visited Italy on two occasions as a participant of the Reggio Emilio Teacher Exchange Program with her Miner colleagues. She continued to participate and improve her level of learning by completing Master’s Level Certification with Trinity University of Washington DC. Marsha excelled at so many things, but her passion was her family, education, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed live music. Marsha was a sweet, kind, gentle soul that never complained; she will be missed by all.


At the time of transition, Ms. Harris was preceded in death by her mother, Flora “Butch” Harris and her brother, Willie “Tom Thumb” Harris.


She leaves to cherish her memory her loving father, Willie Marshall Harris, Sr. of Skipwith, VA; one sister, Demetria Harris of Washington, DC; two aunts, Loretta Harris of Clarksville, VA and Janice Harris of Skipwith, VA, her “Aunts” Maxine (Hillard), Hattie and “Uncle” Charles (Gloria) of Chesapeake VA and a vast number of other loving cousins, relatives, friends, her Miner Elementary Schools students, families and staff.

VIRGINIA SERVICE

Funeral services for Ms. Marsha Yolanda Harris will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA with Bishop Elect Michelle C. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery, Skipwith, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 1:45 P.M.


Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
