Marion E. Terry Sr., affectionately known as Jack, was born in Mecklenburg County on February 27, 1940, to the late Julia Ann Terry-Hargrove Taylor and Frank Terry. He entered eternal rest at his residence in Newark, NJ, on August 9, 2023, at 6:02 pm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons: Marion E. Terry Jr. and Cornell Terry; and three brothers: Lunoah Terry, Nathaniel Terry, and Larry Hargrove.
Marion accepted Christ as his savior at a young age and was a member of Island Hill United Church of Christ in Clarksville, VA, until he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he started his career as a Truck Driver for Zullo, Marion, Tidewater, and Panel Flex Lumber Companies until his retirement in 2002.
Marion enjoyed watching Westerns, Mets games, and all the Judge shows, especially Judge Judy, Jeopardy, and a few other favorite TV shows. He loved spending time with his family, especially watching his Great Grandson Davion’s boxing matches with his good friend Mr. Smitty. He also enjoyed going to the Casinos playing slots and on the Blackjack tables. He loved being around New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and North Carolina family and friends. It was always a joy to spend time with them.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Dorothy B. Terry; three sons: Anthony Terry of Pittsburgh, PA, Dennis Terry (Delondria), Shakee Terry (Munira) of Allentown, PA, and Sylvia Gordon of Fayetteville, NC; six sisters: Barbra Terry (Marion) of Greensboro, NC, Juanita Gregory (Steve) of Rougemont, NC, Glenda Burwell (Chester) of Henrico, VA, Evelyn Hargrove of Henderson, NC, Joyce Jackson of Walkertown, NC, Elizabeth Burwell (Albert) and Sharon Caddle (Larry) of Clarksville, VA; three brothers: George Hargrove (Joyce) of Brooklyn, NY, Vernon Hargrove from Cary, NC, and Shirley Hargrove (Anna) of Ft. Mitchell, AL; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; one aunt, Mary Williams; along with a host of nieces (a special niece Melissa Elliot), nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Island Hill Christian Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Curtis McRae delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
