Mrs. Mabel Johnson Mullins, 85 of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Monday, December 31, 2012 at Granville Medical Center, Oxford, NC. Mabel J. Mullins was born October 19, 1927 to the late Jordon Watkins and Etta Puryear Johnson in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County Public School and at an early age joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church. She was employed by Russell Stover Candy Company for 20 years before retiring. She had a great love for life. Her heart was in her church always thinking of things to do or be done. She headed up and played for the youth choir many years, was a member of the Senior Choir and president of the Usher Board. She headed up many committees. She started a Gospel Group called the Community Gospel Singers and founded a fellowship club called the C.C.S. Club. She was instrumental in starting the first Puryear, Watkins, and Llewellyn Reunion. She loved going to Stovall Senior Center and loved to sing in the “Sing a Long” Choir. Mabel was a great traveler. You can say LET”S and she would say GO! She was married to the late William D. Mullins Sr. in 1943. To this union five children were born. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son, William D. Mullins Jr. and a daughter, Ola J. Smith; one sister, Thelma W. Jackson; three brothers, Walter M. Johnson, William D. Watkins and Jordan Watkins Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories three children, Robert E. Mullins Sr. (Bernetha), Emily Royster (Samuel) and Linda D. Hayes all of Clarksville, VA; fifteen grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elder Walter Watkins (Rosa Lee), Elder Samuel Watkins (Salley) of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Geneva Jones, Queens, NY; one brother-in-law, Deacon Ernest Mullins; three sisters-in-law, Magnolia Mullins, Virginia Watkins and Shirley Johnson; a special family dear to her heart, Brenda, Calvin, Michael and Steve Moore; her riding partners, Jane Paschall, Mary Small and Stella Venable and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Johnson Mullins will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Raymond Roberts, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Clarksville, VA.
