Mrs. Lucille Yancey Martin-Hopson, 97, of Wedowee, AL and formerly of Clarksville, VA, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at her daughter’s residence. Mrs. Hopson was born September 11, 1921 in Lunenburg County, VA to the late Lee Yancey and Elizabeth Stables. She received her education in the Mecklenburg County Public School System, and at an early age joined Mount Ararat Baptist Church. She later joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2 in Clarksville, VA. Upon relocating to New York, Mrs. Hopson worked as the chief cook for the mayor. She later settled in Clarksville, VA, and worked briefly at Burlington Industries. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling the world. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hopson was preceded in death by her first husband, Clem Martin; her second husband, Rev. John Hopson; two daughters, Elizabeth (Peggy) Martin and Joyce Martin; two sisters, Ada Preston and Onia Poole, and six brothers, Taylor, Lenard, Raymond, Leroy, Eugene and Herbert Yancey. Cherishing her memories are one son, Clem MacRay Martin (Mattie) of Annandale, VA; a daughter, Ida Louise Martin-Amon of Wedowee, AL; two grandchildren, Kevin Martin (Erin) of Silver Spring, MD, and Anthony Martin of Alexandria, VA; three sisters-in-law, Alfreda Yullie of Clarksville, VA, Mozell Braithwaite (Jorge) of Weston, FL, and Alice Jones of Delaware, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Yancey Martin-Hopson will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction, VA with Rev. Andy Hargrove delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Baptist Church #2 Cemetery, Clarksville, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Arrangements are by C. H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
