Lucille Puryear Roberts

Mrs. Lucille Puryear Roberts, 83, of Saxe, VA entered eternal rest Monday, December 3, 2018 at her residence. Mrs. Roberts was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia January 2, 1935 to the late Elizabeth Puryear. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was a member of First Baptist Church, Wylliesburg, VA. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Teza Roberts and a son, Alfred L. Ward. Cherishing her memories are her daughter, Phyllis Ward of South Boston, VA; her son, James Ward, Sr. of Drakes Branch, VA; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren; her devoted caregiver and daughter-in-law, Pauline Medley; brother-in-law, Clarence Roberts of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Ardell Martin of Baltimore, MD; special friends, Erma W. Hatcher and Sandy Wood, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Puryear Roberts will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA with Pastor Earnest Goode officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
