Lt. Col. (Ret) Eugene A. Freeman, formerly of Catonsville, MD, departed this life July 25, 2018 in South Hill, VA. He was born October 20, 1938 in Chase City, VA; graduated from West End High School in Clarksville, VA; and received both BS and MS degrees from Virginia State College (now University). He retired honorably from the United States Army after 20 years of active duty; followed by retirement from Baltimore County Permits and Licenses, Baltimore, MD. He was a dedicated family man who continued to put the welfare of his loved ones above his own until he was no longer able to do so; a faithful member of Payne Memorial AME Church, and an ardent fan of his beloved Baltimore Ravens. He was preceded in death in 2014 by his loving wife of 47 years, Pearlie Bigsby Freeman; grandson, Terrell Curry; his parents, Arthur & Jennie Freeman; grandparents, and an older brother, Garnett A. Wood. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted family, including a son, Travis Curry (Lorna); grandsons, Travis Manning (Heather); TChano Curry, and Tamar Curry; one great- granddaughter, Kaya Curry; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Freeman Hayes and Dr. Erma L. Freeman; two brothers, George M. Freeman (Rosalind) and Norman E. Freeman, Sr.; one godson (nephew), W. Warren Hubbard, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Dr. Barbara Bigsby Boyd; devoted friends, Clarence and Eleanor Holman, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Lt. Col. Eugene A. Freeman will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley III officiating. Interment will follow in the Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to The American Cancer Society PO Box 429 Richmond, VA 23218-0429; Payne Memorial AME Church, 1714 Madison Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21217; or Concord Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 341 Chase City, VA 23924. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
