Lizzie Mae Smithson

Ms. Lizzie Mae Smithson, “Cat Bird”, 88, of Clarksville, VA entered eternal rest Friday, January 24, 2020 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA. Ms. Smithson was born in Red Oak, VA August 15, 1931 to the late Jordan and Mary Fields Pettus. She attended Salem School in Red Oak, VA, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was previously employed as an office manager for the State Insurance Fund of New York. In addition to her parents, Ms. Smithson was preceded in death by three sisters, Ardell Barnes, Maude Boyd and Virgie Session and four brothers, Joe, Alfred and Charlie Pettus and Jessie Gayles. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Wonder Venable of Clarksville, VA; three grandchildren, Nicole K. Venable, Ronald A. Venable, Jr. and Lee A. Venable; nine great-grandchildren, two brothers, Matthew Pettus (Melba) and Rev. Dr. Jordan Pettus all of Clarksville, VA and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. Funeral services for Ms. Lizzie Mae Smithson will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, VA with Rev. Roger Allen delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Arrangements are by C.H. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
