Mr. Leonard Henry Elam, Jr., 70, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at VCU Medical Center, Richmond, VA.
Mr. Elam was born in South Boston, VA on January 28, 1954 to the late Gladys Moody Elam and Leonard Henry Elam, Sr. He was a graduate of Bluestone Senior High School where he excelled on the football field and was a master trumpeter. Mr. Elam was a graduate of Virginia Tech University where he majored in Animal Science and was a member of the Theta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. Mr. Elam was a member of St. Level Baptist Church where he sang with the Combined Choir and Male Chorus. In recent years he was a member of the gospel group, Inner Peace, for which he played the keyboard.
Mr. Elam was a former assistant manager at Roses in Oxford, NC, before landing at Virginia Cooperative Extension, where he worked for 30 years. Through his job as an extension agent and 4-H teacher, he touched countless lives of children in Southside Virginia. Mr. Elam loved the outdoors and all things nature, and in his spare time enjoyed reading books, basketball, ping-pong and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry A. Elam.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Angela Elam Williams (Charles) of Detroit, MI; son, Marcus Elam of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, Charleigh Williams and Charles Williams III of Detroit, MI; former wife, Avis Elam of Detroit, MI; goddaughter, Robin Wiley of Burlington, NJ; brother, Dwight Elam (Diane) of Chase City, VA; aunt, Margaret Moody of Red Oak, VA, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Level Baptist Church, Clarksville, VA with Rev. Toney W. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Elam Family Cemetery, Chase City, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M.
