Leola Fierce Tate

Mrs. Leola Fierce Tate, 93, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Monday, July 7, 2008 at Southside Community Hospital, Farmville, VA. Mrs. Tate was born in Lunenburg County, VA February 22, 1915 to the late Samuel A. and Alice Bell Hayes Fierce. She attended the schools of Lunenburg County, VA and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA.  Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur Toone and her second husband John Tate. She also was preceded in death by two sons, James and Samuel Leroy Toone; three brothers, Millus, Samuel and Hoover Fierce and three sisters, Irene, Frances and Annabelle.  She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Herbert Toone (Lucille) of Halifax, VA, Roger Toone (Yvonne) of Victoria, VA and Donna Oliver (Altonia) of Yonkers, NY; two foster children, Angela Jessama (Alvin) of Yonkers, NY and Maria Tatum (David) of Randolph, VA; 31 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one brother, Treadway Fierce (Eula) of Durham, NC; three sisters, Alice Parker of Victoria, VA, Gugurtha Dudley of Atlanta, GA and Shula Davis (Leroy) of Chase City, VA; a nephew she help raise, Abraham Toone of Galion, OH; three sisters-in-law, Thelma, Helen, and Gloria; devoted friend, Robert Watson and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.  Funeral services for Mrs. Leola Fierce Tate will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria, VA with Rev. Hosie Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main Street, Chase City, VA.
