Lenora Smith Zeigler

Mrs. Lenora Smith Zeigler, 86, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Sentara Careplex, Hampton, VA. The daughter of the late Frank B. Smith, Sr. and Annie Smith Walker was born on September 9, 1920 in Chase City, Virginia. She attended and graduated from Thyne Institute in 1938, she furthered her education at St. Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA. Mrs. Zeigler taught for several years in the Public Schools in Charlotte County, VA, before moving to East Orange, NJ. She continued her education at Willowbrook State School of Nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Lenora was proud of the fact that graduated first in her class and was the oldest member. She later worked at Willowbrook State Hospital in Staten Island, NY, until her retirement.While living in New Jersey she became a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. Upon returning to Chase City she reunited with Bethlehem Baptist Church where she participated in the choir, Sunday school and other youth organizations.She was preceded in death by her husband Vivian Zeigler.She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Vivian Z. Carter; one granddaughter, Nikki Carter; one grandson, Auguster (Jay) Carter and one great grandson, Omari Carter all of Hampton, VA; two sisters, Annie S. Wright (James C.) and Dorothy S. Smith of Chase City, VA; and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.Funeral services for Mrs. Lenora Smith Zeigler will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Ricky A. Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery.Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1304 North Main Street, Chase City, VA.
