Lena May Oliver Walker

Mrs. Lena May Oliver Walker, 91 of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on June 4, 2013 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA. Mrs. Walker was born on March 6, 1922, the youngest of nine children in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late Lewis Murray Oliver and Etha Dogget Oliver. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, VA and was a member of Bluestone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA. She was a domestic worker before becoming a full-time homemaker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Russell H. Walker, Sr., one son, Freddie M. Walker and eight siblings, James, Clarence, Waverly, Laurney, Ardell, Beatrice, Annie, and Helen. Cherishing her memories are her four children, Betty Williams(Frederick), Brenda Walker-Gillis and Russell Walker, Jr. all of Chase City, VA and Irene Wyatt, (Herman Jr.) of South Hill, VA; thirteen grandchildren Bridget Gillis-Cruise  (Tom) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Darryl  Oliver (Andrea), Veronique Bowers-Jackson both of Richmond, VA, Terry Bowers of South Hill, VA, Herman Wyatt III of Hampton, VA, Bryant Wyatt of Virginia Beach, VA, Raymond  Barnes  (Cynthia) of Newport News, VA, Dorothy Barnes of Drakes Branch, VA, Carsandra Barnes, Kimly Walker both of Richmond, VA, Alexander Walker of Meherrin, VA, Russell Walker III of Chase City, VA, and Shavonne Redd of Washington, D.C.; 30 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren;  three sisters-in-law, Elsie Hatcher (Robert) and Joyce Maxine Peeks both of Chase City, VA, Ethel Oliver of Mitchellville, MD; and a vast number  of other loving relatives, beloved caregivers and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Lena May Oliver Walker will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Bluestone Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Ethelbert Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Chase City, VA. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA. Service 3:00 P.M.
