Laverne Harris Thomas

Mrs. Laverne Harris Thomas, 80, of Skipwith, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, January 13, 2025 at her residence.

Mrs. Thomas was born May 17, 1944 in Skipwith, VA to the late Gladys and Harvey Harris. She was a graduate of West End High School in Skipwith, VA and a member of New Light Baptist Church. During her career, Mrs. Thomas worked as a computer programmer and as an owner operator in trucking with her husband, John Thomas. She later retired from the work arena to become a care giver for her parents and numerous other family members. She enjoyed reading, plastic canvas, crocheting, feeding the birds and helping her children and grandchildren plant flower and vegetable gardens. She also loved her dogs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Ernest Timberlake.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, John N. Thomas of Skipwith, VA; daughter, Sharon Carrington (Clarence) of Skipwith, VA; sons, Darryl Carrington of Conley, GA, Victor Thomas of East Orange, NJ, and Brian Thomas (Cynthia) of East Orange, NJ; six grandchildren, Christopher, Torick, Jasmine Phillips, Jasmine Pope, Phebe, and Brianna; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Tre'von, Rylee, Aubrey, Torick Jr and Ayoki; one sister, Doris Timberlake of Skipwith, VA; niece, Yvette Timberlake; dedicated friend, Deborah Richardson, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A memorial service for Mrs. Laverne Harris Thomas will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City, VA.
