Lanza "Zeek" Hayes

Mr. Lanza “Zeek” Hayes, 66, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Monday, October 24, 2016 at VCU Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA. Mr. Hayes was born in Chase City, VA on June 7, 1950 to Albertha L. and the late James A. Hayes. At an early age he joined Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA and attended Bluestone Senior High School, Skipwith, VA. Mr. Hayes was formerly employed by Burlington Industries and Cardinal Homes, and was a catcher for the Concord Eagles baseball team. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lorina H. Baskerville and one brother, Nelson L. Hayes. Cherishing his memoires are wife, Rita Trent Hayes of Chase City, VA; four children, Stacey Hayes of Fredericksburg, VA, Frederick Hayes and Erica Hayes-Ross of Chase City, VA and Nicky Doss of South Hill, VA; four step-sons; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his mother, Albertha W. Hayes of Chase City, VA; four sisters, Carolyn H. Liggon, Coretta H. Atkins (Darnell), Sharon H. Bouldin and Velma H. Crowder (Warren); four brothers, Eugene A. Hayes, Stanley O. Hayes (Janice), Henry D. Hayes (Janie) and Donald M. Hayes (Joyce); two brothers-in-law, Franklin Baskerville and David A. Trent; two sisters-in-law, Deborah and Lisa Trent; one uncle, William Wood and a vast number of other loving relative and caring friends. Funeral services for Mr. Lanza Hayes will be conducted 2:00 P.M, Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Elder Kenyatta Evans delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA.
